Hidden Peak Challenge

This morning I raced in the Hidden Peak challenge at Snowbird. The starting line elevation is at about 8,000 feet, right by the Iron Blossom Lodge, and the trail goes up to the top of Hidden Peak at 11,000 feet. It is about 4 1/2 miles, and I finished in 1:24:12. It was STEEP! I only ran for a few minutes the whole time. I feel like that mountain has chewed me up and spit me out! What a day. It was great fun! And gorgeous scenery.

View from the top looking east.

View from the top looking west into SL valley. By the way, you can just ride the tram up to this spot to enjoy the wonderful scenery. It's a lot easier I'm sure. ;)

FHE at Copper Mine

This past Monday we had FHE with the Chapman's at the Kennecott Copper Mine. I can't believe I've lived here all my life and have never gone there. It's so close! It was amazing and educational. I didn't realize how much work is involved in getting the copper. What a cool place!

Haircuts!

The kids all got their haircuts on the 16th by aunt Heidi. She chopped the girls hair all the way to their jaw line! It's so much easier to brush through now. No more screaming :) And Bailee added bangs so she could be like her cousin, Sydni. Cute! Ryker just got a trim on the back and around his ears. He would not hold still. Kudos to Heidi for being so patient!

Kody's accident

As some of the family is already aware, my brother Kody was in an accident yesterday on I-15. My explanation of what happened might not be entirely accurate, it's just what I've heard from my other family members, and Kody and his wife Brianna. He was travelling on the south end of the valley, going north on I-15 around 10600 S., and a cement truck full of cement crashed right into the back of him, causing his truck to hit the vehicle in front of him, and another one in front of that one. I don't know if traffic was slowing down or why he slammed into him, but Kody seems to remember maybe slowing down or he could have even been totally stopped. Kody says he doesn't remember the accident at all, or even seeing the truck coming or anything. He just remembers waking up in the hospital and really trying to make an effort to just concentrate. He has a concussion and a neck brace, and had to have a cut on the back of his head stapled shut. He was wearing his seat belt. The airbag didn't deploy, (we don't know why). The man driving the cement truck might have been on drugs or alcohol, but I don't know that for sure yet either. I was told the drivers of the other cars are okay, and Kody is the only one still in the hospital. My sister Season told me the cement truck shouldn't have even been on the road because it hadn't passed inspection. Tyrel is Season's husband, and Kody's boss, so he has been getting this info since the truck Kody was driving was the company truck.
Kody is still in the hospital today, and might go home tonight or tomorrow morning. They said he has no broken bones (a miracle!). Kody says the worst part is his upper neck and the accident kind of "accordianed" his neck out, and it's really sore.
I'm so grateful it wasn't worse. It's hard to believe he could have died yesterday. We love you Kody!!

Uinta ride

On Saturday, September 13, I went on a nice fall ride with my dad, my uncle Jade, and cousin Andrew up to the Christmas Meadows area up to Amethyst Lake in the Uintas. It was probably the last weekend the weather was going to be fair weather in that high country. (It has already snowed up there recently). It was gorgeous!

The Sound of Music

I LOVE this movie. I guess I had forgotten how much I loved it until a couple of weeks ago. I bought the 40th anniversary DVD probably a year ago, just knowing that it was a movie I wanted my kids to grow up with. Then it went on my shelf. On a nice Sunday afternoon, I wanted to just sit down to a good "Sunday movie" like my parents called them. I pulled it off the shelf and took off all the annoying "new DVD" wrapping, and the magic had begun. As a child, I remember watching this movie on Sunday evenings with my family. I couldn't believe how quickly the words of the songs came back to me. They were all still there right in my head, as if I had watched the movie the day before. I was singing along, happily. Then all the memories flooded back of making homemade popcorn, melting the butter, and pouring it all in our huge green tupperware bowl then sitting on the floor watching the movie. Wondering what a beesting was. I didn't realize it was 2 words at the time. I always thought Liesl was the prettiest one, and couldn't wait until I was 16 going on 17. I adored Gretl, the youngest. And we always laughed at how they fell in the water out of the canoe, but laughed at Fredrick's fall the most. But I think this is my favorite part now, when the children come in the house sopping wet, and while 'captain' is arguing with Maria outside, he tells her to pack her bags, and suddenly hears the children singing the sound of music to the baroness. Then he goes inside and actually joins in the singing with them. And the part where he sings "Edelweiss" with his daughter Liesl brought tears to my eyes. This is a movie I will treasure forever. And my girls are already going around the house singing, Do-re-mi, and lay ee odl lay ee odl lay hee hoo. They love the puppet part the most I think!

Thanks, Camille, for teaching me how to post the videos!!

I am so mad! HELP!

I was just shopping around for a cute fall background for my blog. I would try to edit my HTML & just take a glance at how it would look with some cute fall leaves, but I never actually changed it, because it wasn't showing my blog list for some reason. So I just left my background as it was. Now, my blog list is GONE!! And I don't have anyone's blog address written down anywhere. So if you're reading this, please leave your address in the comments, or e-mail me another invite if you don't mind, to: tiachap@yahoo.com. I can't believe I have to start over. AAAhhhh! How frustrating. I tried to google how to get them back, but got nowhere. This sucks.

Congratulations to Season & Tyrel!!

My sister Season had her 3rd boy yesterday, September 8, 2008, at the new IHC hospital. His name is Luke Waylan Brower. He was born at 8:58PM, and weighed 7lbs 5 oz, 20" long. Her biggest boy so far! Thanks, Season & Tyrel, for letting me come and be a part of it. It was awesome!
She was hoping to be induced Friday, 9/5, but the hospital was too busy, so they told her maybe Monday. Then on Saturday and Sunday, she thought she might be going into labor, so she went in for some tests on Sunday, but it was a false alarm and they sent her home. She was FINALLY able to go in on Monday sometime between 1:00-2:00pm. He's finally here!

Wasatch Woman 5K/10K

This is Kattie, Liz, Heidi, and I before running the 5K/10K this past Saturday. It was great fun! I have to enter myself into races so it MAKES me get out and train for something. When I don't have a race coming up, it's a lot harder for me to just go work out. I need a reason! It works! If anyone wants to find a race in the Utah area, a great place to look is here: http://www.mysaltlakerunningco.com/saltlake/text_1.asp?s_id=0

Kevin brought Bailee and Trinidee, and we left Ryker with my mom. (Thanks mom!) Here's Bailee eating my post-race snack.

Another incident....

I was doing work in the office last Thursday, Bailee was at school, and Trinidee and Ryker were in the family room/kitchen. Any time it gets quiet, I know they're doing something mischievous. I came into the kitchen and immediately smelled french vanilla. My first thought was, 'it smells so good in here'. My second thought was, 'why does it smell like vanilla in my kitchen?' I came around the corner to find this. Trinidee had opened the vanilla pudding powder package and helped Ryker smear it all over himself and the floor. Fun stuff. And of course it happened right
AFTER I gave Ryker a bath. So I had to give him another one.

Trin's 1st day of pre-school!

Yesterday, September 3rd, was Trinidee's 1st day in her 4-year old pre-school class at Miss Barbara's! She did go to the 3 year old class during the last 4 months or so last spring, so she's already used to it, and I didn't have any withdrawals at all! (I think I must be a bad mom) She has been asking me every day when she gets to start going to class. She was SO excited!
So for 2 whole hours, I ONLY had RYKER!! So of course I went shopping. I went to the Quilted Bear and browsed for over an hour. It was 10:00 in the morning, and no one else was there. It was wonderful!

This is what happens........

when you blog and don't watch your kids! Trinidee decided to pull all of the stuffing out of one of my couch pillows that was starting to come undone.
