August 30th-September 2nd was spent in Star Valley at the Barn, with my immediate family. Everyone was able to make it except for my brother Kody & his family.
Saturday we all went to Hidden Lake via horse, 4-wheeler, motorcycle, or truck. We hung out there for a while, and the kiddos enjoyed playing in the water.
After playing at the lake, everyone went back down to the barn, and my dad, my sister and I continued up the canyon to try to get to a pass to see to the other side. Brianne went on foot & dad & I rode our horses. We hadn't been beyond Hidden Lake before, so it was new territory for us.
That's the pass we were headed for.
We stopped at this point because the trail was disappearing, and it was getting too steep for the horses. My dad opted to stay with the horses while Brianne & I went on foot to the pass.
We found the trail again, and it only took us 10 minutes to get there.
The views looking Northeast,
We stood there admiring the beauty for a while, looking for anything that might be familiar. After a couple of minutes, I recognized the U-shaped valley which is the Swift Creek drainage, along with Slate Mountain, a place we have camped at the base of since we were little kids. It was very exciting to all of the sudden recognize these places that we know like the back of our hand. We've hiked all over in that area too many times to count. It's the place where I really learned to love the mountains & hiking. It's also the place where Asia fell.
The view to the north. It was SO smoky that day.
Coming back was a lot of fun. The horses always know when you're going home, and they are always in a hurry to get there. Brianne jogged in front of us. When we were going through the trees, she reminded me of Katniss from the Hunger Games. She just needed a bow & arrow. And a braid.
Brianne took a couple of turns riding Rosey so I could walk/run, and she could give her quads a break. :)
That evening was spent having more fun!
The next morning we saddled the horses back up and let the kids take some rides.
This is the first time Bailee has ridden a horse without an adult holding on to a lead rope. She had full control of the reins!
Afterwards, I sprayed Rosey off with the hose. She loved it!
Beckham & Blake. 7 months apart.
Not sure what's happening here...
I did a photo shoot for my youngest sister, who is about to have a baby girl, which is awesome, since she has 4 boys! See more of the session here.
Goodbye Star Valley! Until we meet again....
